What You Won't Hear on the Radio- Christmas

Here is a collection of some of my favorite Christmas songs that you will probably never hear on the radio or in the stores.

Peppermint Winter
by: Owl City
*Owl City also has a song called Christmas Song (creative, huh?).

When I was taking guitar lessons, my teacher liked to start out the class by having us watch the music video for the song we would be learning. He loved Coldplay (and Switchfoot) so we learned this song on guitar for Christmas.

Christmas Lights
by: Coldplay

Relient K came out with a Christmas album a few years ago called Let It Snow, Baby... Let It Reindeer which has a combination of original songs and covers of classical Christmas songs. I would recommend listening to the whole album but this is my favorite song off of the album.

I Celebrate The Day
by: Relient K

I don't think David Archuleta wrote this song originally but it's still a good song. He did write a song called Melodies of Christmas which you might want to check out.

Pat-A-Pan
by: David Archuleta

This song makes me think about the direction God gives us in our lives. He is there to help us through anything we have problems with. He loves us no matter what and if we sin he is always willing to accept us back with open arms when we decide to repent. He wants us to return home to him and is with us every step of the way to ensure we can.

Christmas Lullaby (I Will Lead You Home)
by: Amy Grant

MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Evolution of Andrew McMahon

I absolutely love Andrew McMahon's voice. He has done many different styles and his career has definitely evolved since he started actively producing music in 1998 with the band Something Corporate.

I Woke Up in a Car
by: Something Corporate

Andrew decided to pursue a side project by himself during this time (with Something Corporate) and called it Jack's Mannequin. In 2005 he was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia, but made a full recovery. His music changed as he changed and learned how to cope with what he was dealing with. He wrote this song based on his experience.

Swim
by: Jack's Mannequin

This song was on the last album he wrote under the name Jack's Mannequin, entitled "My Racing Thoughts".

Recently Andrew McMahon announced that he would just be going by his name for his musical career. He said that he associated the name Jack's Mannequin with the period of his life when he was sick and going through a tough recovery process. He was ready to move on.
Here's to new beginnings!

Shazam!

Sorry for the drought of music posts. School starts in a few days and it's been kind of crazy.
Anyways, as you know the title of this post is "Shazam!" which, while a great exclamation, is also an app. You know how sometimes you are at a party, in a store, or listening to the radio and you hear a really great song but you have no idea what it's called or who it's by? Or maybe you know the artist but not the name of the song, or vice versa? By pulling up the Shazam app, it listens to the song for a few seconds and pulls up the name of the song, artist, and album name as well as other options such as the music video for the song, etc. etc. It also stores your tags so you can view them whenever. It's really cool and helpful! I'm going to post some of my favorites that I have identified through Shazam.

But first, a song that was randomly stuck in my head when I woke up this morning (I haven't heard this song in like over a month).

For Starters...

I listen to all kinds of music, most of it you probably won't recognize but there will be some you do. Hopefully there will be something for everyone. Sometimes I will post one song per genre but more often it will just be whatever random songs I want to post. The hope is that I will post five or six songs every Monday, but don't hold me to it. I'm not making any promises :)

I will post the music videos unless they aren't clean, I don't particularly like them, or there isn't one. Enjoy!

*Disclaimer: I'm not always going to catch something bad in a song but I will try my best. I apologize for anything that may slip through.

The Drive

What's the purpose of this blog? Well, turn on the radio and you may notice a problem. Profanity, sexual references, hidden messages, and drug references are entwined in so much of modern-day music that its hard to find clean music that you can enjoy listening to. The music we listen to greatly affects the way we think and how we perceive the world which is mirrored in our actions. Music affects our thoughts, even on a subconscious level so we need to be careful about what we listen to. I am committed to providing great music selections for you without the filth that is so prominent in a lot of modern-day music.

Now that's music worth listening to.
